In this article, I have shared my knowledge on “5 Online Learning Strategies for Students”.
Everyday life has changed in the last year as people throughout the world have adapted to learning and working from home.
Learners of all ages have adapted to remote learning while taking advantage of the numerous high-quality online courses available to them from the comfort of their own homes.
It’s difficult to concentrate on your studies at home! To make things easier,
I’ve put up a list of my top 5 online learning strategies for students.
- Create a plan
- Make information stick
- Stay focused
- Eliminate distractions
- Stay consistent
1. Create a Plan
2. Make Information Stick
When you learn anything, the neurons in your long-term memory form connections. You have a schema when you have a lot of linkages connected to what you want to learn, which makes it easier to remember new information.
I prefer to see it as a giant net into which you toss fresh information, which the net then catches because it already contains related information.
Knowing a little bit about one subject allows you to learn a little more about another, and each time you learn anything new, you gradually add to the net.
Making connections between new information and things you already know is one strategy for building these long-term memory linkages.
For example, one of my friends has trouble recalling names but enjoys talk shows. When he meets new people, he associates their names with his favourite talk shows to reinforce existing connections and make information easier to recall.
Repetition with breaks and retrieval practice are also beneficial. Pulling fresh information from your mind develops the neuronal connections in your brain.
It’s as simple as looking at a piece of information on a flashcard and then looking away while you try to recall it to your mind. All of these contribute to the formation of neuronal linkages and connections.
3. Stay Focused
4. Eliminate Distractions
Distractions can be tough to resist, especially now that more family members work or study from home. I used to have four kids at home, so I’m familiar with the challenge!
I have a special set of headphones, and my family understands that I should not be disturbed when wearing them.
Putting on the earbuds informs my family that I’m doing a Pomodoro and that they are welcome to disturb me once the 25 minutes are up.
You can use a similar strategy and provide a trigger to tell your family that you are concentrating and should not be distracted.
This positive reinforcement is good to family members and helps you to focus on learning and productivity without interruption.
5. Stay Consistent
