What is SEO?

SEO is one part of a wider Internet marketing process called “online promotion”, which includes Search Engine Marketing (SEM), search engine optimization, submitting content to social bookmarking websites, and online press releases. All of these activities help a website’s web traffic.

In December 2015, Google released a full 160 page version of the Search Quality Rating Guidelines to the public, which now shows a shift in their focus towards “usefulness” and mobile search.

Since the start of 2016, “Mobilegeddon” has been an impending update to Google’s ranking algorithm which gives benefits to websites that are mobile friendly, thus prioritizing web pages that display well on smartphones and tablets over desktop computers.

Search engines are complex programs designed by humans in order to determine what the most relevant results are when a person types in certain words or phrases. Search engine marketing (SEM), is the process of outranking your competition by having your website rank higher on search engine results pages (SERP).

When you type in a phrase that has commercial intent, like “NYC Plumbing Contractors” into Google, an algorithm determines whether it is a phrase that a person is typing in, or a search engine bot looking for sites for its commercial advertisers.

To rank high on a SERP, you have to both create good content and use SEO tactics that help search engines determine what your site is about.

What’s the First Step in the SEO for Your Website?

The first step in the seo for your website is to make sure that your site is listed on search engines. You can submit your site to several free listings sites. These are called “Directories”.

Another way to start SEO for your website, especially if you do not have a large budget, is to use an article directory submission tool.

Article directory submission is a great way to get your site indexed in the major search engines. To submit, you must have an article directory account, which usually costs around $1.00 per month for a small directory and up to $30.00+ for a top article directory.

For that price, you’ll be able to submit unlimited articles without having to wait for a manual review.

Before you start searching for article directories that you want to submit to, it would be best if you first looked into the directory’s terms and conditions. Most directories do not allow self-promotion(SEO) articles from websites belonging in an “Article directory submission” category.

They usually allow them from directories, but not all directories. So make sure you read the terms and conditions before submitting to any directory.

Now that you have your article directory account ready, what’s next? You first need to find some articles that are relevant to your topic. It would be best not to use articles on your own site (even if you are allowed to), since it will look like you are self-promoting your website.

You can start out by searching on Yahoo for article directories, or just do a Google search on “article directory” and use the top 5-10 article directories that come up first.

Once you have collected some articles relevant to your topic, go ahead and open up your article directory account. When you are logged in, click on the “articles” link to start adding articles to your listing. Here’s an example of what a search result looks like:

Here’s how you would fill out the form:

First Line – Your first name or alias/nickname that will be displayed with this article.

Second Line – Your website’s name or the title of your article.

Third Line – Your byline goes here, so you can write something about yourself in a 3rd-person point of view, but keep it short.

Fourth Line – This is where you will paste the HTML code of your article that will be submitted to the directory.

Now that your article is submitted, you’ll have to wait for the directory’s review process to approve or not accept it. If your articles are accepted, they will be published in the directory within 15-30 days depending on the directory.

Furthermore, directories usually have their own RSS feed which you can submit to different news feeds aggregators.

You can also use article directory submission software like Article Marketing Robot to automate the whole process. Here’s a video showing how it works:

Article marketing provides unparalleled SEO benefits because it organically promotes your website and its content to thousands of websites all over the world. Even if you don’t think that your posts will get indexed by Google on the first try, it will get indexed over time through RSS submissions.

What this means is that even if you don’t rank #1 on Google right away for your keywords, you’ll be ranking on the 2nd page really soon, and after about 3-4 months, you can expect to see some movement in the SERPs (search engine results pages).

Article marketing should be a part of every website owner’s strategy because you can literally get thousands of backlinks from just one article submission. The key is to come up with the right content so that other websites will want to publish your articles as well as link back to your site.

SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization. If your website is not in the top 10 search results of Google, Bing or Yahoo then it has no value because that is where the people are looking for information about their needs.

Most of them do not bother to look beyond the first three pages on SERPs (Search Engines Results Pages). So if your site is not among the first three pages of search results, it is a waste of time and effort.

Steps to Create SEO of Your Website-

  1. Get traffic

Before you can think about ranking high in search engines for keywords such as “SEO” and “optimization”, you need to make sure that you have a website with good content and link structure built on it.

You can’t do anything without those, so this is the first thing potential visitors will see when they land on your site. That’s why it’s smart to make sure you get the traffic on your website for free, before thinking about search engine rankings (which will get you more visitors).

To get some initial traffic to the website you need to:

–  write good content;

– promote it on social media and other websites;

– get links from other websites to yours.

  1. Build a nice website structure

Before you can make your site search-engine friendly, it must be built well and adhere to the standards set by webmasters around the world. This means that your site should use proper HTML markup and have several “technical” things in place: Title Meta Description Tags (keywords) Robots.txt Sitemap These things are not really a secret, so anybody can see them.

And if your website looks like it’s been created by a five-year-old who just realized that computers have this “internet” thing, then you’re going to have a problem with both visitors and search engines.

  1. Build links

The more links you have back to your site, the better. That’s a fact. There are two ways to build these links:

– by getting high-quality backlinks pointing directly at your URLs;

– by generating traffic on other websites and having people link to your content there (as they realize it’s valuable).

  1. Use proper SEO techniques

There are many “tricks” and tricks that go beyond the rules of search engines, such as:

– choosing a nice keyword;

– putting it in your page Title;

– putting it on top of your web pages; Page titles, meta descriptions and headings (H1 etc.) are “technical” things that webmasters use to indicate what a certain page is about. If you want to be found, then it’s smart to put your chosen keyword in all these places. This will make you rank higher for this keyword and make people find the relevant pages on your site easier.

  1. Monitor rankings with Google Analytics

Google Analytics gives you the ability to see what keywords are bringing you traffic, which pages are linked with others and more. It’s basically an invaluable tool that every website owner should use.

With all this in mind, your site can become really successful. Of course, making it rank high for some particular keyword is not the only way of doing things – sometimes it’s better to optimize for long-tail keywords that bring targeted traffic, but are not searched often.

And don’t forget – there are many other things that affect your rankings – the time of year, competition on particular keywords, website type and so on. That’s why it’s really important to have a good SEO strategy before you enter the world of search engines.
